Journey 2: The Mysterious Island – Now Available on Blu-ray and DVD

Friday, June 8th, 2012

Earlier this year, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island was released in theaters, furthering the story that began in Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D.  Soon after the release, there were rumors of a potential third film in the Journey series, to round out the trilogy.

The second chapter, The Mysterious Island is both fun and a bit cheesy at times, but it has a great cast and keeps moving, taking you on a really fun adventure into a world unlike any you’ve seen before.

Trailer for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Friday, November 18th, 2011

I’m a fan of the first Journey to the Center of the Earth with Brendan Fraser, though I was a bit skeptical of the sequel after he didn’t return. That said, I enjoyed most of the trailer for the sequel. There were only a couple of things in the trailer that I wasn’t too fond of, but at the very least it should prove entertaining. It definitely looks like it’ll be better than Zookeeper, but that doesn’t say much. I think it looks like it could be on par with the first, and that’s good enough for me.

The new adventure begins when young adventurer Sean (Josh Hutcherson) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist–a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret. Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather (Dwayne Johnson) joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Release Date Delayed to 2012

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Until recently, I was expecting to see Journey 2: The Mysterious Island on the big screen this month.  The one problem?  No trailers have been released for it, so it would have released to very little box office, if any at returns at all.  I just looked it up to see if there was an update about it, and it turns out it’s been delayed until February 2012.  Smart move.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island will release on February 10, 2012 (according to IMDb, today), and is the sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D.  In the film, Sean Anderson partners with his mom’s boyfriend on a mission to find his grandfather, who is thought to be missing on a mythical island.

Filming Starts For ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Filming has begun on location in Oahu, Hawaii, for the 3D family adventure “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” directed by Brad Peyton (“Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore“).

Josh Hutcherson will reprise his role as young adventurer Sean Anderson in this exciting follow-up to the 2008 worldwide hit “Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D,” the first live-action film ever to be shot in digital 3D. Dwayne Johnson stars as Sean’s stepfather, Hank Parsons; Michael Caine as Sean’s grandfather, Alexander Anderson; Vanessa Hudgens and Luis Guzman as a father-daughter tour guide team; and Kristin Davis as Sean’s mom, Liz Anderson.

The new journey begins when Sean receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist — a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret. Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter, they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever.

Michael Caine joins Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Michael Caine has become one of my favorite actors to watch on screen.  From his role as Scrooge in The Muppet Christmas Carol to Alfred in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, he has the acting chops to give weight to just about any role that he plays.  Now he has joined Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson for the sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth.  It’s too bad that Brendan Fraser dropped out of the movie, as it would have been great to see him acting with Michael Caine.

Dwayne Johnson joins Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Dwayne Johnson is strapping on a backpack for New Line’s “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” the sequel to “Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D.”

Brad Peyton is on board to direct the film, in which Josh Hutcherson will reprise his role as burgeoning explorer Sean Anderson. Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson of Contrafilm are producing.

Brendan Fraser was the top draw in the 2008 movie but is not returning after hitting an impasse over start dates. That put New Line on track to find a new star, with the studio and Johnson dancing for several weeks before getting into it. Johnson is in negotiations, with a deal expected to close this week.

New Line and Walden Media Prep Journey 3-D Sequel for Fall 2011

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

New Line and Walden Media are putting together the sequel to Journey to the Center of The Earth, and sources said that Brendan Fraser is definitely teetering. The reason: the studio wants to make a fall, 2011 release date which would mean hiring another director to replace Eric Brevig, who’s busy with another Warner Bros 3D film, Yogi Bear.

Fraser wants to be loyal to Brevig and is resisting New Line’s suggestion of filmmakers like Brad Peyton. New Line’s alternative would be re-fashion the film around Josh Hutcherson, who played Fraser’s character’s son in the original film. Such a move would save an eight-figure star salary, but it is a major risk to go without a star to return to a film that grossed $242 million worldwide.

Sequel to Journey 3-D: Mysterious Travels: The Lost Map of Treasure Island

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

New Line’s reteaming with Walden Media and ContraFilm for a sequel to “Journey to the Center of the Earth.”

The sequel’s based on Richard Outten’s script “Mysterious Travels: The Lost Map of Treasure Island,” in which Prof. Trevor Anderson and his nephew embark on a journey to a mysterious island that was the subject of three classic novels (Jules Verne’s “Mysterious Island,” Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island” and Jonathan Swift’s “Gulliver’s Travels”).
