Poots visits Northern Ireland film set for City of Ember

A major Hollywood movie being shot in Northern Ireland can show the world its huge potential as a film location, the country’s Arts Minister Edwin Poots has said.

Mr Poots was speaking after visiting the Belfast set of `City of Ember`, a children`s sci-fi fantasy adventure, in Titanic Quarter.

“Northern Ireland is an excellent location for film production and it is very important that we make every effort to market the area nationally and internationally as a production base,” he said.

“The fact that this major Hollywood film has come here, in the face of stiff competition from other regions and film commissions, is evidence for international film makers to shoot their films.

“The film, based on the book by American writer Jeanne DuPrau, has been funded by the Northern Ireland Film and Television Commission.

The cast includes Bill Murray and Tim Robbins.
