Multitalented Indian musician visits

Indian musician and composer Shafaatullah Khan will appear at Knickerbocker Theatre on Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. Khan also starred in the IMAX movie “Pulse: A Stomp Odyssey.”

Khan will showcase his talents with the sitar, an Indian lute with a long neck; the surbahar, a bass sitar; and the tabla, a pair of Indian drums. His performances will have accompaniment.

A touring veteran, Khan debuted as an 11-year-old at a festival in England and has since played venues such as the Lincoln Center in New York, Royal Albert Hall in London, the Great Hall of the Kremlin in Moscow, Suntory Hall in Tokyo and the Acropolis in Athens.

Khan also starred in the IMAX movie “Pulse: A Stomp Odyssey.”

He is known for his playing skills as much as his compositions. Coming from a long line of musicians — over 400 years worth — Khan is distinguished from his family with his multidimensional musical repertoire.

While on the Hope campus, Khan will give lectures and demonstrations for select classes.

Tickets are $5 for adults and can be reserved at DeVos Fieldhouse ticket office by calling 395-7890.
