Interview with How to Eat Fried Worms Star Luke Benward

For as long as Luke Benward can remember he’s wanted to be an actor. Benward’s mother, Kenda, is an actress who used to take him with her on auditions. It was only natural then that Luke would wind up in commercials at a very early age. From commercials, Benward made his way into supporting roles in movies including We Were Soldiers and Because of Winn-Dixie. With How to Eat Fried Worms, Benward gets his first shot at a starring role in a feature film.

Luke Benward was familiar with the Thomas Rockwell book prior to taking the lead role in the film. “I did read it once in third grade with my whole class, so I was pretty familiar. But I wasn’t so familiar that I knew the whole story and all the characters names,” said Benward.

Although the movie’s based on the book, Benward said he decided not to go back and read it through one more time before they shot How to Eat Fried Worms. “After I read the script we were kind of like, ‘It’s kind of different from the book
