ComingSoon Interviews ‘Manhunt’ Screenwriter

Screenwriter Mike Rich, best known for the sports dramas The Rookie and Radio, took on this challenge when he decided to adapt two New Testament gospels about the birth of Jesus into a screenplay for The Nativity Story. In less than a year, that screenplay was turned into a movie by director Catherine Hardwicke, casting Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider) as Mary and Oscar Isaac as Joseph.

CS: What about this Abe Lincoln historical story “Manhunt” that you’d been working on? That seems very different from everything else you’ve done.
Rich: But we do have a virgin birth in it. (laughter)

CS: Is that something you’ve been doing concurrently with this?
Rich: It was something I was doing, I had wrapped up several drafts beforehand, so I was ready, and it’s been delayed a little bit, but it looks like we’re going to be filming early part of next year.

CS: And Harrison Ford is going to be starring in it?
Rich: Yes, [as a man] looking for John Wilkes Booth, a 12-day hunt. It’s an adaptation of James Swanson’s book “Manhunt,” so I’m excited about that.
